  • Re: Today is the Anniversary of the Michigan Theatre Gig

Hi Mumbles, yes you are correct! I had the wrong date above, Mich Theatre gig was actually March 10 1975. I thank you for your kind comments. I have been listening to that tape too, and I am definitely amazed at the level of musicianship we had attained as a group by the time we got to that gig. And...

Here are my recollections of that whole thing: One day in rehearsal at the house of madness this guy Dick Reed showed up. Having just listened to the radio interview tape (which is quite cool) I notice Mike making a comment about us needing a manager to go out and get us gigs. Who knows, maybe Dick Reed...

For me that gig was the final injustice. Dick Reed, if that was really his name, was just slick enough to fool us youngsters into thinking he was genuine. I don't remember ever agreeing that he would be our manager, but he came across as quite intent on putting together what he represented as a really...

As I recall, one of Mike's friends down at a local TV station came up with an opportunity for us to create a video, at the station. My recollection that perhaps it was the A/V department at Eastern Michigan University, someone help me here... at any rate, we carted our equipment to this studio and...

thanks for commenting Tim... would be interested to know what happened to Bobby McGee... not only did I know him through Billie but Bobby's mother (and local artist Molly Eldersveld) was my mother's best friend at the time. I do recall the "put a lid on that squid" phrase also! another...

I'm so glad you reminded me of the "zombie hoof". When billy wiped it out into that tree up on the hill on Earhart road, the hoof left the antenna and flew into the woods. We never thought it would be seen again, but I somehow think I remember that Billy went back, possibly a few weeks...

I totally remember Sue! Hi Sue, come on in the water's fine! yup Bill Gracie was called " the blimp " because he had basically "become" the Trout Mask Replica album by then... LOL! When I first met him, his almost every response to anything was, " it's the blimp, Frank...

  • manuscript pg 1

this is the original manuscript for the tune we do at the opening (not the star trek thingie, the piece that we segue into from that...) it was originally called "Departure, Arrival, and Sleep Finally", which was a pretty good metaphor for the way I was feeling when I wrote it (note the date...
